Meet DJ Smiles, Our #WorkParty Desert Pop Up DJ
If a DJ isn't a #WorkParty starter, then you may need to find you a new DJ.
DJ Smiles Davis started her professional career as a dancer and shared the stage with big names like Lauryn Hill, Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliot. Music has been an intuitive part of her journey since the beginning. Stepping into the DJ role of things and creating the vibe that everyone else gets to rock with, was a natural progression for her career.
This year, she adds the iconic Coachella stage to her list of performances to date. Obviously, we think DJ Smiles fits the mold of a WorkParty starter as she's building her legacy and getting the parties started across the board.
We tapped Smiles for a few of her go-to party jams below.
What’s your favorite thing about your job?
Bringing the party!
How do you keep the party included in your work and avoid the extra stress of high expectations?
I like to keep hydrated with booze & spirits like everyone else at the party. My second occupation is literally having a good time, it’s my job to spread that energy so I anticipate the needs of people on the dance floor before they even realize they wanted to hear a certain song or be directed in a new direction. I also work out 3-4 days a week to keep my blood pumping above average.
Being on the Coachella stage is a huge accomplishment in your career journey, what’s the next big thing you’re working towards?
This is a bit surreal for me. I’ve been mentally preparing for this moment for some time, it’s so beautiful the universe is blessing me with this opportunity at this time in my life... a time of transformation and exponential growth for me. I’ve never felt more prepared. Zero nerves, pure excitement! I’m in my own backyard at Coachella. I’m working towards elevating my platform on a global level.
What are the top 5 songs on your party playlist at the moment?
Ooh Portugal The Man “Feel it Still”
Migos “Walk it Like I Talk it”
Drake “Nice For What”
Peggy Gou “It Makes You Forget”
A$AP Rocky - Forever
What’s the DJ Smiles WorkParty mantra?
It’s not that serious.
